This video was recorded to accompany my video on "Steam Distillation". It explains what is happening when water boils and when an immiscible mixture of water and phenylamine boils. It then goes on to demonstrate the use of ice to boil water in an enclosed space - providing a simplified explanation based on the combined gas equation. In this video I look at the setup for Steam Distillation and explain its use in purifying liquids by distilling them well below their boiling points. This is useful because some liquids (e.g. phenylamine) begin to decompose when heated to their boiling points.
