In this video I look at the setup for Steam Distillation and explain its use in purifying liquids by distilling them well below their boiling points. This is useful because some liquids (e.g. phenylamine) begin to decompose when heated to their boiling points.
It is one in a series of short videos looking at the main organic practical techniques: heat & distill; reflux distillation; washing and drying in solvent extraction; recrystallisation and melting point determination; and others.
