Local governments provide numerous services to us every day. They provide utilities, such as water and electricity; they build parks, schools, and roads. The health and welfare needs of a community are a shared responsibility of local, state, and federal governments. To fund these various services local governments have several sources of income. Most of their income comes from property taxes and some earn income from tolls and fees. They can also borrow money and receive intergovernmental revenue through state and federal grants.
