Finding the pH of ALKALIS_ No. 1 Principles and Strategies.
This is the first of two videos covering the topic. Here I begin by looking at the self-ionization of water and at water's ability to behave as both a Bronsted acid and Bronsted base. I then move on to derive the expression for the ionic product of water and to show how it relates to the acid and base dissociation constants for weak acids and bases - and later to pH and pOH. I end by developing a flow diagram and formula sheet to help you tackle examination questions associated with the pH of alkaline solutions. In the accompanying video I take you through a wide range of examination questions that require you to apply what you've learnt in the first video.
